Using your benefits

Make appointments with your Advisors

  1. Academic Advising appointments are made through our STARS Appointment system (stars.wayne.edu). You will log in with your Wayne State AccessID and new Password.
    1. First select "Schedule an Appointment". Then under "Department", select "Appointment with my Assigned Advisor". This will take you directly to your assigned Academic Advisor basedon your selected major.
    2. Your Academic Advisor will need to provide you with a Plan of Work or a signed printout from DegreeWorks.  They will know exactly what this is and they will also let you know if you need any placement testing.
  2. Once you have met with your assigned Academic Advisor, you will use the same appointment system to meet with Denise Thomas or Jaime Lopez, the Veteran Academic Advisors. This time you will select "Other Advising (Honors, Veterans, Warrior Way Back)"
    1. Denise and jaime will also help you with all Veteran related advising issues.
    2. Denise and Jaime will accept your copy of the academic Plan of Work and a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility from the VA if you intend on using any VA Educational Benefits.

Returning students

Complete Request for VA Certification Form 

New students

  1. If you have not already, establish an eBenefits account and complete an Application for Veterans Educational Benefits.
  2. Provide this office with Proof of Eligibility via the following:
    • Certificate of Eligibility (All variations of the GI Bill®)
  3. Turn in a Plan of Work form signed by your Program Academic Advisor.
  4. Complete Request for VA Certification Form.
  5. Complete the WSU 3rd Party Tuition Agreement Example: http://omvae.wayne.edu/images/3rd_party.jpg

Transfer students

  1. Provide this office with Proof of Eligibility via the following:
    • Certificate of Eligibility (All variations of the GI Bill®)
  2. Turn in a Plan of Work form signed by your Program Academic Advisor.
  3. Complete Request for Change of Program or Place of Training
  4. Complete Request for VA Certification Form.
